Denise M. Petersen has been serving clients in the financial service industry since 1990, when she joined Dean Witter Reynolds in Anchorage, AK. In 1994, she decided to open her own independent firm, Petersen Investment Planning, and moved to the San Francisco Bay area. She has been affiliated with Royal Alliance Associates, Inc., an independent broker-dealer, since then and is also a member of the investment advisory firm of NWF Advisory Services, Inc. She feels being an independent financial advisor allows her to best meet the needs of her clients.
Her passion is working with clients to help them meet their financial goals. This includes structuring portfolios to meet future income needs (from college costs to retirement), while building plans with an eye towards tax efficiency. She works with small businesses on retirement plans and employee benefit options. She evaluates financial risks to clients from long term illnesses, disability, or death and helps find ways to mitigate the financial impact on families and loved ones. For Denise, there is nothing more rewarding than when clients realize their goals are within reach.
She has been insurance licensed in California for life, annuities, disability and long-term care since 1994. She has participated in advanced retirement and tax classes in addition to have taken many of the certified financial planning courses. She also has two plus decades of required continuing education classes from which she draws from when making recommendations to clients.. Denise regularly attends Royal Alliance's annual National Education Conference, as well as the Women's Conference. She participates in product sponsored webinars and classes, and is an avid reader of financial news. This helps her stay current, to better meet her goal of being a trusted resource for her clients.
Denise was born and raised in Nebraska, so she is a Big Red Cornhusker football fan. Her family moved to Juneau, AK, where she spent her high school years. She graduated from Oregon State University, where she played basketball and softball. Her softball team competed in four College World Series tournaments. She briefly taught school and coached on the Oregon coast before returning to Alaska to begin her career in the financial services industry. She currently enjoys being a season ticket holder for the Stanford's women's basketball team and attends many sporting events in the Bay Area. She loves working outside in the garden, exploring new areas (especially in her RV) and spending time with family and friends.
